How do new KIT members receive their first KIT-Card?
You will receive your KIT-Card at the registration desk at Campus North. You will be photographed for this purpose with the camera installed there. This picture is not available for the production of further KIT-Cards! For more detailed information, please contact the responsible personnel department.
Important! Please bring your identity card or passport AND residence permit with you to pick up your KIT-Card.
Your first KIT-Card will be issued automatically if the following requirement is met:
- We have a picture of you in the self-service portal my.scc.kit.edu.
Check the box for "Pick up at" to "South Campus".
Tip: If an image is displayed, it is available to us.
The following business day, your KIT-Card will be created automatically. Immediately after production, you will be notified by email when and where your KIT-Card will be available for pickup.
Exception: If uploading the image is not possible because you do not have a suitable image available or in case of existing technical difficulties, have your new KIT-Card created in the registration desk create it. Also, contact the registration desk if you have not received an email notification to your KIT mailbox one business day after uploading the image.
Important. Please bring your identity card, passport or residence permit with you to the collection.

I already have/had a KIT-Card and need a replacement.
In the event of a lost card, please go to your appropriate registration desk and have a new card created there. To speed up the on-site card issuing process, you can upload a picture of yourself at my.scc.kit.edu.
If you also use your KIT-Card as a library card of the Karlsruhe City Library or the Baden State Library, inform the libraries about a prospective card replacement.
If you still have credit on your card, please deactivate the payment function at Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe using the online form on the website.
In case of a defective card, please go to your local registration desk and have a new KIT-Card issued there. To speed up on-site card creation, you can upload a picture of yourself at my.scc.kit.edu. Please bring your old ID card with you.

Guests of the North Campus please go to your registration desk and have a new ID card created there.
All other groups of people will be issued a new KIT-Card automatically if the following conditions are met:
- A contractual relationship exists after the expiration date printed on the current KIT-Card, or in the case of students, you are re-enrolled for the semester following the expiration date.
- Your KIT-Card expires in less than 6 weeks/is already expired
- We have a picture of you in the Self-Service-Portal my.scc.kit.edu in front of us.
If all requirements are met, your new KIT-Card will be produced the following business day and you will then be informed by e-mail when and where it will be ready for collection.
Exception: If uploading the picture is not possible because you do not have a suitable picture available or in case of existing technical difficulties, have your new KIT-Card created at the registration desk create it. Please also contact the registration desk if you have not received an e-mail notification to your KIT mailbox one business day after meeting the above requirements.
The KIT-Card Service Team has no control over the name that is printed on the card. Names, titles, etc. are administered by different KIT administrative bodies, depending on the group of persons. If a name is misspelled or has changed, please first contact the office responsible for you and have the name changed there.

Guests of the South/West/East Campus: The person responsible for your GuP account at your institute.
To speed up card production on site, you can upload a portrait picture of yourself at my.scc.kit.edu.
Afterwards, please go to your local registration desk and have a new KIT-Card issued there on the spot.

How long is my KIT-Card valid?
The KIT-Card of employees is valid for 5 years from the date of issue, but not longer than the end of the contract as communicated by the Human Resources Office. The validity ends on the last day of the month printed on the KIT-Card.
As a rule, the card validity of the first student card is 5 years, after which successor cards will only be issued with a further year's validity. The validity ends on the last day of the month printed on the KIT-Card.
The KIT-Card of guests is valid for 5 years from the date of issue, but not longer than until the expected end of the activity at KIT. The validity ends on the last day of the month printed on the KIT-Card.
Returning the KIT-Card
As the KIT-Card is property of KIT, you have to return it at the end of your activity at KIT.
KIT employees and guests hand in their KIT-Card at the end of their work at KIT in one of the registration desk offices.
Students return their KIT-Card to the Student Services Office at the end of their studies.
Questions about the payment function
How can I load credit onto the KIT-Card?
New credit can be loaded onto the KIT-Card at the reloaders of the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe.
In addition, by participating in the so-called autoload procedure, you can automatically top up your KIT-Card at the cash desks of Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe and Campus Nord for example if you have too little credit to pay at one of the cash desks.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to top up via online procedures or by bank transfer.
When exchanging a KIT-Card, any credit balance will normally be transferred by the staff of the registration desk transferred to the new KIT-Card.
If the wallet of the previous KIT-Card can no longer be accessed (card loss or card defect), then you must have your credit transferred to your new KIT-Card via the online form of the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe.
Important! For this procedure you need to know the purse number of both the old and the new KIT-Card.

Please contact the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe (Servicepoint in the foyer of the Mensa) to check your card / card account.

You can withdraw your credit from the Studierendenwerk Karlsruhe via this online form to have it refunded. You have to indicate there the purse number of the KIT-Card whose credit is to be refunded.

For KIT-Cards issued as of May 2018, you can find the wallet numbers in my.scc.kit.edu. Go to "Account Information" and click on the "KIT-Card" tab.

For KIT-Cards issued prior to May 2018, you will find the purse number on the printout that was provided to you when the card was issued. For these cards, the information is not available in my.scc.kit.edu is not available.
Questions about the access function
Yes! Authorizations you received for the old KIT-Card will be transferred to the successor card. This applies to both building and entry authorizations to the South and East Campuses.
The following reasons are generally possible:
- Missing authorization
Test: The LED on the card reader lights up red.
Please contact the building officers who can tell you the secretariat responsible for the building. - Defect of the card reader
Test: No LED indication on the card reader, not so on other card readers.
Report the location of the reader that needs to be checked and replaced, if necessary, to the appropriate building representative, who will be able to provide you with the name of the secretary responsible for the building. - Defect of the card chip

Questions about time recording
The following causes are possible.
- A new KIT-Card has not (yet) been transmitted to time management.
Test: The LED on the card reader lights up red.
Contact Time Management and report the problem, mentioning the ID number of your KIT-Card (printed on the KIT-Card and starting with 1580). - Defect of the card reader

Card defective?
Hold your KIT-Card at different access control card readers. If you do NOT get an LED indication on several card readers, your KIT-Card is defective.
